16th annual MAD Festival

Please join us for the 16th annual Modern Atlanta Dance Festival! This festival offers a wonderful opportunity to view work by some of Metro-Atlanta's finest dance artists and companies. The MAD Festival, first presented in 1995, is Atlanta's only professionally adjudicated modern/contemporary dance event, and more than sixty different metro-Atlanta individual artists and/or companies have been presented on the MAD Festival stage since the first event.

Performances are on Saturday, February 27 at 8:30 pm and Sunday, February 28 at 7:30 pm, 2010.

Festival host Full Radius Dance premieres an excerpt from “Walking Over My Grave”, choreography by Douglas Scott, based on the medieval unambiguous belief in the everyday communication between the afterlife and the world of the living.
Independent choreographer Daryl L. Foster, a Spelman University dance faculty member, is represented with the group work “Lift”, set to music by Ravi Shanker and Avor Part.

CORE Performance Company will perform an excerpt from “The Point”, choreographed by artistic director Sue Schroeder. “The Point” is an exploration of the writings of Raymond Federman and the transformation of the written word into movement.

Zoetic Dance Ensemble examines the time in life when things come together – the moment when everything clicks - in Melanie Lynch-Blanchard’s “Click”.

In “Know Me In the Now”, Project Seven Contemporary Dance shows how stages of change can lead to personal growth. Choreography is by artistic director Cherrise Wakeham.

Redemption Dance Theatre makes is festival debut with “The Last Day”, with choreography by artistic director Terry Slade. “The Last Day” uses repetitive rhythms and melodic undertones as the dancers’ life comes to its final destination.
